The 2006 Movie List

I don’t really watch that many movies, but I still keep track of them. So here’s what I’ve watched in 2006:

1. In the Mood For Love (1/14/06)
We watched this in preparation for watching 2046. Tim didn’t like it, but I thought it was all right. I liked the style (early 1960s Chinese).

2. Wedding Crashers (1/27/06)
I was so worried that this was going to be another There’s Something About Mary, which I really didn’t like. It wasn’t. I especially liked the joke about the lower-back tattoos, and I can’t look at one without imagining it as a bull’s eye for a horny guy.

3. Junebug (1/29/06)
Yeah, Amy Adams was really good, but this was pretty much a movie about nothing. Hipster cinephiles probably liked it a lot, but I just thought it was okay.

4. The Constant Gardener (1/29/06)
Loved it. Loved it. Suspenseful, thought-provoking, beautifully filmed. Not an uplifting movie by any means, but well worth seeing.

5. Hustle and Flow (2/1/06)
I will watch anything Terrence Howard is in, even if it sucks. This was excellent. If you hate rap music, you probably won’t like it. If you’re open-minded (or if you like rap), give it a try. I wasn’t expecting much from Taryn Manning, but she was really great.

6. Corpse Bride (2/11/06)
This was so fun to watch. I wish we had gone to see it in the theatre. I’m shocked that it wasn’t nominated for the Best Animated Feature Academy Award, because it was visually incredible–which is what you’d expect from Tim Burton, I guess.
